PODGORICA (Montenegro), May 16 (SeeNews) – Montenegro’s government said it has signed a 12 million euro ($14.2 million) contract with Italian company Leitner for the construction of two cableways in the municipality of Bijelo Polje.
Under the contract, Leitner will build a 1.7 km-long cableway from Manastir Podvrh to the Djalovica cave for 4 million euro and a six-seat cableway in Cmiljaca mountain for 8 million euro, the government said in a statement on Tuesday.
The construction works are expected to last for 18 months and to be completed in November 2019.
Leitner will produce the equipment and will design the cableways, whereas Montenegrin companies, like Novi Volvox, will also participate in the project, finance minister Pavle Radulovic said in the statement.
In January, prime minister Dusko Markovic said the government plans to invest 60 million euro by 2020 to improve the country's winter tourism infrastructure.
Montenegro, a country of 600,000, operates 27 km of ski slopes served by 19 lifts.
