April 23 (SeeNews) - The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into local cryptocurrency platform operator Thodex, Turkish media reported.
The prosecution appealed to personnel for their testimonies on the platform, Anadolu Agency reported on Thursday.
At the same time, a criminal complaint alleging 'aggravated fraud' was filed against Fatih Faruk Ozer, the founder and CEO of Thodex, by lawyer Abdullah Usame Ceran. The complaint asked to seize all assets of the cryptocurrency exchange platform, including vehicles, bank accounts, holdings and shares, the agency also reported.
Turkey's financial crimes regulator suspended all accounts of Thodex as of Wednesday, Anadolu Agency also said.
According to local media reports, hundreds of thousands of users of Thodex have been left unable to access their digital assets after the platform abruptly halted trading earlier this week, thus raising fraud concerns.
A statement published on the platform's website, quoting the company's CEO, says that the claims against Thodex are unfounded and a 'smear campaign'. Thodex found last week abnormal fluctuations in its accounts and temporarily closed the platform to determine the reasons and sources for those fluctuations, the statement added.
