April 7 (SeeNews) - Turkey's Istanbul Airport plans to open a third runway on June 18, local media reported.
The wind turbines near the facility will be removed by the end of 2020 and then the construction of the outbuildings will be completed, Hurriyet Daily News quoted Kadri Samsunlu, CEO of airport operator IGA, as saying on Monday.
Istanbul Airport served 64 million passengers of 74 carriers in the past 12 months, the chief executive said.
The airport opened for service on October 29, 2018 and is operational since April 6, 2019. It is expected to achieve a capacity of 200 million passengers once it is fully operational.
