November 19 (SeeNews) - International police organisation Interpol has renewed the arrest warrant for the chairman and CEO of Hungarian oil company MOL, Zsolt Hernadi, issued by Croatia, the Croatian interior ministry said.
The Interpol executive committee took the decision after the European Court of Justice (ECJ) upheld in July Croatia's request for the renewal of the arrest warrant, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
In November 2016, Interpol decided to withdraw the arrest warrant of Hernadi and instructed Croatia and Hungary to solve their controversy before the ECJ, after which the police organisation may reconsider its search for the CEO of MOL, Croatia's Interior Ministry said.
In 2014, Croatia's Supreme Court upheld an earlier decision of the Zagreb County Court to try Hernadi in absentia on charges of bribing former Croatian prime minister Ivo Sanader to allow the Hungarian group to obtain a dominant position in Croatian oil and gas company INA [ZSE:INA].
In November 2003, MOL acquired 25% plus one vote in INA. It became the largest shareholder of the company, raising its stake to 47.16% via a voluntary public offer in October 2008.
MOL is currently the biggest shareholder in INA with a 49.08% stake. The Croatian government owns 44.84%, with the remaining 6.08% held by institutional and private investors.
