February 12 (SeeNews) - InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), one of the world's leading hotel operators, is considering opening its first hotel in Croatia's capital Zagreb, local media reported on Friday.
The project will most likely be a greenfield investment rather than a redesign of an existing hotel facility, news portal Poslovni.hr reported, quoting IHG's director of development for Southern Europe, Hylko Veersteg.
"IHG wants to invest in Croatia and Slovenia. Our focus is on urban centres and capital cities. We are still considering our options and such negotiations can last, but Zagreb is very appealing," Veersteg noted.
In December, Serbian diversified conglomerate Delta Holding launched the construction of an InterContinental Hotel in Ljubljana, the first five-star hotel in Slovenia's capital. IHG also recently announced the opening of its fourth hotel in Serbia - a Crowne Plaza Hotel in the country's second largest city Novi Sad.
