April 6 (SeeNews) - Moldova's economy is expected to grow by a real 4.5% in 2021, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Tuesday, improving its forecast for a 4.1% rise in gross domestic product (GDP) made in October.
In 2022, the IMF expects Moldova's economy to rise by 4%, the Fund said in the April 2021 edition of its World Economic Outlook report.
"We are now projecting a stronger recovery in 2021 and 2022 for the global economy compared to our previous forecast, with growth projected to be 6% in 2021 and 4.4% in 2022. Nonetheless, the outlook presents daunting challenges related to divergences in the speed of recovery both across and within countries and the potential for persistent economic damage from the crisis," the IMF said in the report.
Moldova's current account deficit is forecast to widen to 7% of GDP in 2021 from 6.5% in 2020. In 2022, the deficit is seen widening further, to 8.1%, the IMF said.
Moldova's consumer price inflation is seen at 5% in both 2021 and 2022.
At the end of March, the World Bank said that it expects Moldova's economic output to grow by 3.8% in 2021 and by 3.7% next year.
