TIRANA (Albania), June 28 (SeeNews) - InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) said it has signed a franchise contract with Albanian infrastructure and tourism company Geci Group to open an InterContinental Hotels & Resorts property in Tirana.

The hotel, to be built on the city's main Skanderbeg Square, is expected to open in 2025, IGH said in a statement on Monday.

InterContinental Tirana will have 300 guest rooms and suites, a conference centre with a ballroom for up to 1,000 people, as well as a spa, indoor pool, gym, restaurants, bars and cafes, casino, kids club, library and underground parking.

Established in 1994, Geci specialises in infrastructure construction. The company also engages in hospitality and tourism activities since 2004 and is the sole owner of Tirana International Hotel & Conference Center since 2011.

In July 2021, IHG signed a franchise contract with Mediterranean Investment Group to open a Crowne Plaza hotel in Albania's Durres. The hotel should open in 2024.
