October 21 (SeeNews) - Greece and Albania have agreed to submit a dispute over maritime borders in the Ionian Sea to the International Court of Justice in The Hague, Greece's foreign minister Nikos Dendias said.
"This agreement between Greece and Albania is based on both countries’ firm commitment to international legality and the principle of peaceful resolution of disputes," Dendias said in a statement on Tuesday after a visit to Tirana.
Greece and Albania signed an agreement for the delimitation of continental shelf areas and maritime zones in 2009. Albania’s constitutional court nullified the agreement in 2010 after the Socialist Party, which was in opposition at the time, challenged the deal, claiming it violated Albania's constitution and territorial integrity.
