May 9 (SeeNews) - German medical and pharmaceutical devices manufacturer B. Braun said on Wednesday
it has started works on a 120 million euro ($142 million) production facility in Romania which will create some 250 jobs by 2020.
The project, named COMPASS, was announced by the company as a greenfield investment in April last year and is located in Sanandrei, in the western county of Timis, B. Braun said in a press release.
Apart from a factory for perfusion solution, the 37,000 sq m hub will include a regional distribution center, a research and development centre and scientific services and an administrative center.
"We decided to expand our operations in Timis county due to the qualified and well-trained staff, to the proximity of a top university center and to the developed infrastructure that allows easy access to the markets of Southeastern Europe. With the completion of this new investment, Romania will become a strategic stronger center for B. Braun in this region," B. Braun South Eastern Europe CEO Christian Braun said.
B. Braun is present in Romania since 1999 and employs 800 in its four divisions - Hospital Care, a perfusion solutions manufacturer; Aesculap, a unit responsible for marketing products to individual and institutional clients; B. Braun Avitum, in charge of dialysis services and centers; and Out Patient Market, which offers products and schemes for outpatient treatments.
B. Braun was founded in 1839 in Germany and provides medical products and services worldwide, employing over 58,037 in 55 countries.
