TIRANA (Albania), September 27 (SeeNews) – The German government is offering a 10 million euro grant to finance a four-year programme to promote sustainable development in Albania’s rural areas, the German embassy in Tirana said on Friday.
The programme aims to improve the economic situation of the rural population, the German embassy said in a Facebook post, adding that the programme was officially launched on September 24 in cooperation with Albania’s tourism and agriculture ministries.
The programme targets small farmers as well as micro and small enterprises operating in the field of tourism or other fields, the embassy added.
According to data from the agriculture ministry, agriculture accounts for 43% of employment in Albania, while some 350,000 agricultural businesses are low-income farmers.
