July 13 (SeeNews) - German do-it-yourself (DIY) chain Hornbach said on Tuesday that it will open a new, 27 million euro ($32 million) store in Romania's northwestern city of Cluj-Napoca on July 15.
The 23,000 sq m store will employ 120, Hornbach said in a press release.
"The inauguration of our new store reconfirms the fact that Romania is one of the attractive markets for the development of the Hornbach Group internationally. We are also continuing our expansion strategy by opening large stores in cities where authorities have a high degree of involvement in community development and we aim to inaugurate a new location in Constanta," Hornbach general manager Mugurel-Horia Rusu said.
Hornback first announced plans to expand its network in Cluj-Napoca and Constanta at the end of September, when it opened a 28.5 million euro store in the northwestern city of Oradea.
With the new store, Hornbach's investment in Romania reached 202.2 million euro.
Hornbach is a multinational family company that has 165 mixed construction and gardening stores in nine European countries - Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Sweden, Slovakia and Romania.
Present in Romania since 2007, Hornbach currently has eight stores - three in Bucharest and one each in Brasov, Timisoara, Sibiu, Oradea and Cluj-Napoca.
