March 4 (SeeNews) - German do-it-yourself (DIY) chain Hornbach said on Wednesday has invested 2.8 million euro ($31.1 million) for the expansion of its store in Sibiu, central Romania.
The project added some 3,500 sq m of new space to the unit in Sibiu, taking the total area of the store to 15,500 sq m, Hornbach said in a press release.
"We made the decision to invest in the expansion of our store in Sibiu because we wanted to welcome local customers with a special drive-in area, like the ones we have in all our other shops across the country. Also, we have increased the outer surface intended for gardening products and space for various departments inside the store," Hornbach Romania general manager Mugurel-Horia Rusu said.
The store in Sibiu was inaugurated in October 2015 following investment of 12 million euro.
“The expansion of the Hornbach store in Sibiu will have a positive impact on the company's business. Thus, we estimate an advance of about 15% of sales for wood, tile and prefabricated products," Mugurel-Horia Rusu added.
Hornbach is a multinational family company that has 160 mixed construction and gardening stores in nine European countries - Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Sweden, Slovakia and Romania.
In Romania, Hornbach has six stores - three in Bucharest and one each in Brasov, Timisoara and Sibiu.
