March 9 (SeeNews) - GE Renewable Energy, a division of US conglomerate General Electric, said on Monday it has been commissioned by Turkish energy company Sanko Enerji to supply units for a 70 MW wind farm that will be developed in Bursa.
GE Renewable Energy will provide 12 Cypress units and two units of 3 MW for the Guney wind farm. The contract also includes 10-year services agreements, GE Renewable Energy said in a statement.
The price of the deal was not disclosed.
GE Renewable Energy noted it will locally produce towers and the two-pieces wind turbine blades in its LM Wind Power’s Bergama facility in Izmir.
Construction and commercial operation of the Guney wind farm is planned for the fourth quarter of 2020.
The wind farm is expected to produce energy to power the equivalent of 71,000 homes and will save about 200,000 tons of CO2, thus supporting Turkey's strategy to power two-third of the country with renewable energy, the statement reads.
Sanko Enerji produces 2.7 billion kWh from renewable resources annually with a total installed capacity of 725 MW. The company plans to increase its installed capacity to 900 MW by the end of 2020 with a view to generating 3.4 billion kWh of electricity per year.
