June 28 (SeeNews) - Russia's Gazprom has said it signed a roadmap agreement with Serbia's energy minister for the expansion of the country's gas transmission system.
The agreement was signed during a meeting between Gazprom CEO Alexander Miller and Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic and energy minister Aleksandar Antic, the Russian company said in a statement on Tuesday.
In light of the increasing gas demand, the parties discussed the development prospects for Serbia’s gas transmission capacities, Gazprom said.
The company also discussed joint efforts with Serbian state-run gas distributor Srbijagas for the expansion of the Banatski Dvor underground natural gas storage facility in Serbia, promotion of the use of gas as a vehicle fuel in Serbia, as well as a scientific and technical partnership between the companies.
According to estimates, Gazprom’s gas exports to Serbia rose by 47.7% on the year in the period between January 1 and June 26, the Russian company also said.
In 2013, Serbia signed a long-term contract for Russian gas supplies for a period of ten years. In 2016, Gazprom exported to Serbia 1.75 billion cu m of gas, a 4.3% increase.
