BELGRADE (Serbia), March 8 (SeeNews) – Russia's Gazprom Energoholding is considering the construction of up to four power plants in Serbia, Russian media reported.
"We have set up a working group, which is considering options for construction of thermal power plants and combined cycle power plants," Russian news agency Interfax quoted Gazprom Energoholding director general, Denis Fedorov, as saying on Thursday.
"It is hard to say anything about time frames at this point, as this will be connected to TurkStream."
Gazprom Energoholding, a subsidiary of Gazprom, is analyzing three-four sites, Fedorov added.
Gazprom plans to build a string of its Turk Stream pipeline for transit of natural gas to Europe from Turkey via Bulgaria, Serbia and Hungary. The future pipeline on the territory of Serbia, approximately 400 km in length, will link the country's natural gas transmission system to those of Bulgaria and Hungary.
On Thursday, Gazprom said it has launched the construction of a 200 MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Pancevo - the first of its kind in serbia. The commissioning of the power plant is planned for 2020.
Gazprom Energoholding is a vertically integrated holding responsible for managing Gazprom Group's power generating companies.
