August 1 (SeeNews) - Dutch dairy manufacturer FrieslandCampina opened on Tuesday a new cheese production line at its Napolact factory in Cluj, in northwestern Romania, following a 1.3 million euro (1.53 million) investment.
The investment is part of an over 3 million euro yearly investment programme to enhance production at the plants in Cluj-Napoca and Targu Mures, FrieslandCampina said in a press release.
The new production line will triple the factory's capacity to 300– 350 tonnes of cheese per month and will help the company develop new products under the Napolact brand.
In 2004, Friesland bought three dairy factories in Romania - two in Cluj and one in Targu Mures. In 2013, it closed one of the factories in Cluj and currently operates the other two where some 570 people work.
In 2016. FrieslandCampina's operations in Romania swung to a 17,271 lei profit from a 13.08 million lei ($3.4 million /2.9 million euro) loss a year earlier. Its turnover grew 14% on the year to 393 million lei in 2016, latest data from the finance ministry showed.
FrieslandCampina is a Dutch dairy cooperative which resulted from a merger between Royal Friesland Foods and Campina in 2008.
