TIRANA (Albania), January 23 (SeeNews) – The total number of foreign nationals who visited Albania in 2019 increased by 8.1% year-on-year to 6.41 million, the country's statistical office, INSTAT, said on Thursday.
The number of foreign nationals who visited Albania for the purpose of recreation increased by 8.1% to 6.09 million in the period under review, INSTAT said in a statement.
The largest number of international visitors came from Kosovo, North Macedonia, Greece, Italy and Montenegro, while visitors from Switzerland registered the sharpest year-on-year increase, of 18.2%, in the January-December period, followed by Spain and Germany with 16.5% increase each.
In the month of December alone, Albania was visited by 288.708 foreign nationals, up 2.9% year-on-year. Of the total, 262,426 came for recreational purposes, up 3.6% compared to December 2018.
In 2018, the number of foreign visitors to Albania increased by an annual 16% to 5.9 million.
