TIRANA (Albania), October 23 (SeeNews) – The number of foreign nationals who visited Albania in the nine months through September rose 7.9% year-on-year to 5.46 million, the country's statistical office said on Wednesday.
Foreign nationals who visited Albania for the purpose of recreation in the January-September period totalled 5.2 million, up by 7.8% year-on-year, INSTAT said in a statement.
The largest number of international visitors came from Kosovo, North Macedonia, Greece and Italy. Visitors from Switzerland posted the sharpest annual increase, by 18.1%, in the nine-month period under review.
In September alone, Albania was visited by 591,414 foreign nationals, down 11.0% year-on-year. Out of the total, 566,908 came for recreational purposes, down by 11.5% compared to September 2018.
In 2018, the number of foreign visitors to Albania increased by 16% to 5.9 million.
