February 24 (SeeNews) - Foreign tourist arrivals to Turkey rose by 16.11% on the year in January, reaching 1.78 million, data from the culture and tourism ministry showed.
Istanbul attracted more than one million visitors or some 56.9% of all arrivals of international visitors in the first month of 2020, figures showed.
Edirne followed with 222,494 visitors or 12.45% of the total number. Antalya came in third, attracting 152,976 international visitors, or 8.56% of the total number of arrivals.
Tourists from Bulgaria accounted for 9.07% of all foreign arrivals, with the number of visitors from this country reaching 162,199 in the month under review. In January, Turkey attracted 132,674 visitors from Georgia, or 7.42% of the total number of international tourists, and 130,608 from Russia, or 7.31% of the total figure.
