LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), March 29 (SeeNews) – A total of 343,725 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the first two months of 2019, up 2.8% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Friday, citing provisional data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased 5.8% to 932,247 in January-February, the statistical office said in a statement.
Domestic tourists increased by 6.0% to 238,254 in the first two months, taking the total number of tourists to 581,979, up 4.1%.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 695,001 in January-February, up 4.0% on the year, taking the overall number of tourist overnights in the review period to 1,627,248, up 5.0% compared to the first two months of 2018.
In the month of February alone, 168,170 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 9.8% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased 10.3% to 440,318 in February.
In February, the markets from which most foreign tourists came, were Serbia (13%), Italy and Croatia (12% each), Austria (11%) and Hungary (7%).
Around 280,000 or 32% of all overnight stays were spent in mountain resorts, followed by 31% in spa resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
