LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), April 30 (SeeNews) – A total of 562,315 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the first quarter of 2019, up 1.2% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Tuesday, citing provisional data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased 2.8% to 1,430,100 in the January-March period, the statistical office said in a statement.
Domestic tourists increased by 7.4% to 362,253 in the first three months of the year, taking the total number of tourists to 924,568, up 3.5%.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 1,023,551 in the January-March period, up 4.9% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period added up to 2,453,651, up 3.6% compared to the first quarter of 2018.
In March alone, 219,070 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, down 1.1% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists fell 1.3% to 503,773 in March.
In March, most foreign tourists came from Italy (16% of the total), Austria (12%), Croatia (8%), Germany (7%) and Hungary (7%).
Around 245,000, or 29% of all overnight stays, were spent in spa resorts, followed by 22% in mountain resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
