January 26 (SeeNews) - A total of 3,935,608 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in 2022, up from only 1,832,466 in the previous year, the state statistical office said, citing provisional data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists more than doubled to 10,076,731 in 2022 from 4,794,935 in 2021, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists fell by 11% to 1,932,500, taking the total number of tourists to 5,868,108, up 46.6% compared to 2021.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 5,509,126 in 2022, down 14.7%. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period grew to 15,585,857 from 11,251,378.
In December alone, 183,738 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 114.8% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists surged 97.6% to 433,642.
In December, most overnight stays were made by foreign tourists from Italy and Croatia, accounting for 25.5% and 11.5% of the total, respectively, followed by Austria with 10.8%.
