LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), June 24 (SeeNews) – A total of 912,896 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the first four months of 2019, up 7.9% year-on-year, the state statistical office said, citing final data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased 7.7% to 2,216,960 in the period under review, the statistical office said in a statement.
Domestic tourists increased by 1.2% year-on-year to 461,948 in the first four months of the year, taking the total number of tourists to 1,374,844, up 5.6%.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 1,279,944 in the January-April period, down 0.1% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period totalled 3,496,904, up 4.7%.
In April alone, 352,627 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 21.6% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists rose 19.2% to 794,203 in April.
In April, most foreign tourists came from Italy (19% of the total), Austria (12%), Germany (11%) and Serbia and Croatia (4% each).
Around 264,000, or 25% of all overnight stays, were spent in spa resorts, followed by 21% in seaside resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
