LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), September 30 (SeeNews) – A total of 3,468,825 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the eight months through August, up 7.9% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Monday, citing provisional data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 4.6% on the year to 8,590,656 in the January-August period, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 1.5% to 1,067,099, taking the total number of tourists to 4,535,924, up 6.3% compared to January-August 2018.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 3,206,072 in the first eight months of 2019, down 1.6% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period totalled 11,796,728, up 2.9%.
In August alone, 888,254 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 10.2% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists rose 3.6% to 2,315,157.
In August, most overnight stays were made by foreign tourists from Germany and Italy, accounting for 16% and 13% of the total, respectively, followed by the Netherlands with 9%.
Around 37% of all overnight stays were spent in mountain resorts, followed by 21% in seaside resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
