LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), October 25 (SeeNews) – A total of 3,459,862 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the eight months through August, up 7.6% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Monday, citing final data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 4.3% on the year to 8,561,736 in the January-August period, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 1.3% to 1,065,497, taking the total number of tourists to 4,525,359, up 7.8% compared to January-August 2018.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 3,199,679 in the first eight months of 2019, down 1.8% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period totalled 11,761,415, up 2.5%.
In August alone, 879,291 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 9.1% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists rose 2.3% to 2,286,237.
In August, most overnight stays were made by foreign tourists from Germany and Italy, accounting for 16% and 13% of the total, respectively, followed by the Netherlands with 9%.
Around 37% of all overnight stays were spent in mountain resorts, followed by 21% in seaside resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
