LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), August 23 (SeeNews) – A total of 1,826,328 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the first six months of 2019, up 7.4% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Friday, citing final data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 5.7% on the year to 4,284,827 in the first half of 2019, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 3.0% to 731,300, taking the total number of tourists to 2,557,628, up 6.1% compared to January-June 2018.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 2,008,790 in the first six months of 2019, up 0.2% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period totalled 6,293,617, up 3.9%.
In June alone, 531,807 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 14.9% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists rose 12.5% to 1,233,649.
In June, most overnight stays were made by foreign tourists from Germany and Austria, accounting for 19% and 9% of the total, respectively, followed by Italy with 6%.
Around 533,000, or 32% of all overnight stays, were spent in mountain resorts, followed by 22% in seaside resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
