LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), October 30 (SeeNews) – A total of 3,965,884 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the nine months through September, up 7.1% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Wednesday, citing provisional data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 3.5% on the year to 9,705,021 in the January-September period, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 1.3% to 1,188,925, taking the total number of tourists to 5,154,809, up 5.7% compared to January-September 2018.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 3,535,050 in the first nine months of 2019, down 2% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period totalled 13,240,071, up 1.9%.
In September alone, 506,022 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 4.3% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists fell 2.2% to 1,143,285.
In September, most overnight stays were made by foreign tourists from Germany and Austria, accounting for 20% and 9% of the total, respectively, followed by Italy with 7%.
Around 30% of all overnight stays were spent in mountain resorts, followed by 22% in seaside resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
