LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), September 24 (SeeNews) – A total of 2,580,571 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the seven months through July, up 7.1% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Tuesday, citing provisional data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 5.0% on the year to 6,275,499 in the January-July period, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 1.2% to 877,372, taking the total number of tourists to 3,457,943, up 5.5% compared to January-July 2018.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 2,558,455 in the first seven months of 2019, down 1.6% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period totalled 8,833,954, up 3.0%.
In July alone, 754,243 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 6.2% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists rose 3.6% to 1,990,672.
In July, foreign tourists from Germany accounted for 14% of all overnight stays, followed by Dutch tourists with a 10% share and Czechs with 8%.
Around 926,000, or 37% of all overnight stays, were spent in mountain resorts, and 23% in seaside resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
