LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), November 22 (SeeNews) – A total of 3,960,179 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the nine months through September, up 7.0% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Friday, citing final data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 3.3% on the year to 9,687,194 in the January-September period, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 1.3% to 1,187,919, taking the total number of tourists to 5,148,098, up 5.6% compared to January-September 2018.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 3,530,845 in the first nine months of 2019, down 2.1% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period totalled 13,218,039, up 1.8%.
In September alone, 500,317 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, up 3.1% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists fell 3.7% to 1,125,458.
In September, most overnight stays were made by foreign tourists from Germany and Austria, accounting for 20% and 9% of the total, respectively, followed by Italy with 7%.
Around 30% of all overnight stays were spent in mountain resorts, followed by 22% in seaside resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
