LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), January 31 (SeeNews) – A total of 4,702,832 foreign tourists visited Slovenia last year, up 6.3% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Friday, citing provisional data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased by 1.8% on the year to 11,378,465 in 2019, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 1.3% to 1,527,824, taking the total number of tourists to 6,230,656, up 5.0% compared to 2018.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 4,409,384 in 2019, down 2.4% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights rose 0.6% last year, reaching 15,787,849.
In December alone, 218,032 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, down 0.2% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists fell by 10.4% to 510,135.
In December, most overnight stays were made by foreign tourists from Italy and Austria, accounting for 26% and 11% of the total, respectively, followed by Croatia with 10%.
Around 30% of all overnight stays were spent in health spa resorts, followed by 22% in mountain resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
