LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), June 28 (SeeNews) – A total of 1,295,587 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the first five months of 2019, up 4.7% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Friday, citing provisional data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased 3.4% to 3,058,044 in the January-May period, the statistical office said in a statement.
Domestic tourists increased by 3.2% to 580,860 in the first five months of the year, taking the total number of tourists to 1,876,447, up 4.2%.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 1,587,864 in the January-May period, up 0.8% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period totalled 4,645,908, up 2.5%.
In May alone, 382,691 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, down 2.3% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists fell 6.4% to 841,084.
In May, most foreign tourists came from Germany and Austria, as each of the two countriea accounted for 12% of the total, followed by Italy with over 7%, the U.S. with 5% and the UK with almost 5%.
Around 265,000, or 24% of all overnight stays, were spent in mountain resorts, followed by 22% in spa resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
