July 24 (SeeNews) - A total of 1,294,521 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in the first five months of 2019, up 4.6% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Wednesday, citing final data.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists increased 3.2% to 3,051,178 in the January-May period, the statistical office said in a statement.
The number of domestic tourists rose by 3.1% to 580,265 in the first five months of the year, taking the total number of tourists to 1,874,786, up 4.1%.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 1,585,757 in the period under review, up 0.7% on the year. The overall number of tourist overnights in the review period totalled 4,636,935, up 2.3%.
In May alone, 381,625 foreign tourists visited Slovenia, down 2.5% year-on-year. Overnight stays by foreign tourists fell 7.2% to 834,218.
In May, most foreign tourists came to Slovenia from Germany and Austria, as each of the two countries accounted for 12% of the total, followed by Italy with over 7%, the U.S. with 5% and the UK with almost 5%.
Around 272,000, or 24% of all overnight stays, were spent in mountain resorts, followed by 22% in spa resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased by 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
