LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), March 26 (SeeNews) – The number of foreign tourists who visited Slovenia in February fell 95% year-on-year as a result of the coronavirus-related restrictions imposed by the government, the state statistical office said on Friday, citing provisional data.
A total of 8,614 international visitors came to Slovenia in February, the statistical office said in a statement.
Overnight stays by foreign tourists fell 90.8% year-on-year to 41,380 in February.
Visits by domestic tourists dropped by 92.2% to 9,943, taking the total number of tourists in February to 18,557, down by an annual 93.8%.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 47,906 in February, down 87.6% on the year, taking the overall number of tourist overnights in the review period to 89,286, down 89.3% compared to February 2019.
The markets from which most foreign tourists to Slovenia came in February were Bosnia and Herzegovina (8%), Germany (8%), Italy (7%), Croatia (7%), Serbia (7%) and Russia (6%).
Some 32,200, or 36% of all overnight stays in February, were spent in mountain resorts, followed by spa resorts with a 25% share.
In January-February, tourist arrivals decreased by an annual 94.7% to 30,593, while overnight stays dropped 90.6% to some 151,692.
