LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), March 27 (SeeNews) – A total of 175,555 foreign tourists visited Slovenia in January, down 3.1% year-on-year, the state statistical office said on Wednesday, citing final data.
Overnight stays by international visitors increased 2.0% to 491,929 in January, the statistical office said in a statement.
Domestic tourists decreased by 9.8% to 89,598, taking the total number of tourists in January to 265,153, down 5.5%.
Overnight stays by domestic tourists totalled 266,496 in January, down 8.8% on the year, taking the overall number of tourist overnights in the review period to 758,425, down 2.1% compared to January 2018.
The markets, from which most foreign tourists came to Slovenia in January, were Croatia (24%), Italy (19%), Austria (8%), Serbia (6%) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (4%).
Over 248,000 or 33% of all overnight stays were spent in spa resorts, followed by 31% in mountain resorts.
In 2018, tourist arrivals to Slovenia increased 7.8% to 5,933,266, while overnight stays added 10.5% to 15,694,705.
