February 7 (SeeNews) - Foreign tourist arrivals to Croatia reached 15.3 million last year, an increase of 44% compared to 2022, the statistical office said on Tuesday.
The number of overnights spent by foreign tourist in Croatia rose by 31% to 82.3 million in 2022, the statistical office said in a monthly report.
Local tourist arrivals rose 15% on the year to 2.45 million in 2022, and the number of overnights by local tourists went up 5.4% to 7.75 million.
In December alone, foreign tourist arrivals to the Adriatic country rose 64% on the year to 194,298, and the number of overnights by foreign tourist went up 50% to 490,337.
Local tourists arrivals rose 15% year-on-year to 135,000 in December, and overnights by local tourists increased 9.9% to 250,000.
Tourism is a key industry for the Croatian economy, contributing a fifth of the country's GDP.
In 2020, foreign tourist arrivals to the Adriatic country dropped 68% to 5.55 million due to the coronavirus crisis.
