July 7 (SeeNews) - Foreign tourist arrivals to Croatia reached 976,312 in May, an increase of 701,000 arrivals compared to the same month of last year, the statistical office said on Thursday.
The number of overnights spent by foreign tourist in Croatia rose by 210% on the year, reaching 3.7 million in May, the statistical office said in a monthly report.
Local tourist arrivals rose 93% on the year to 254,882 in May, and the number of overnights by local tourists went up 83% to 563,053.
Foreign tourist arrivals to to the Adriatic country reached 10.6 million last year, an annual increase of 91.9%, following a drop of 68% in 2020 due to the coronavirus crisis.
Tourism is a key industry for the Croatian economy, contributing a fifth of the country's GDP.
