January 27 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign visitors to Bulgaria surged by 60.3% year-on-year in December, reaching 761,852, of which 37.8% were transit trips, the statistical office said on Friday.
Visitors from fellow EU member states accounted for 51.1% of all international arrivals in December, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report.
Visits to Bulgaria from other European countries totalled 305,863 in December, of which Turkey accounted for 50.2%.
Overall, Romania was the source of the largest number of visitors - 155,031, followed by Turkey, Greece, Ukraine and Serbia.
Holiday trips and business visits accounted for 28.1% and 14.1% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively, with increases registered across the board in all observed categories in the review period.
