SOFIA (Bulgaria), January 27 (SeeNews) – The number of foreign tourists who visited Bulgaria in December rose 20.4% year-on-year, reaching 531,100, data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) showed on Friday.
Citizens of EU member states made up 55.4% of all foreign tourist arrivals in December, up 30.1% compared to December 2015. Tourist arrivals from the Czech Republic and Austria increased the most - by 51.2% and 44.7%, respectively.
The number of tourists who visited friends or relatives or just transited the country increased 15.8% on the year and made up 46% of all foreign tourist arrivals in December.
Vacation trips increased 19.9% on the year in December and accounted for 35% of all trips by foreign tourists, while the number of business trips rose 34% on the year, reaching 19% of the total number of foreign tourist arrivals to Bulgaria in December.
