November 29 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign visitors to Bulgaria surged by 49.2% year-on-year in October, reaching 847,095, of which 38.7% were transit trips, the statistical office said on Tuesday.
Citizens of fellow EU member states who visited Bulgaria last month were 392,690, which represented a share of 46.4% out of all foreign visits, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report.
In October, Romania was again Bulgaria's biggest EU feeder market, accounting for 37.4% of EU visitors. It was followed by Greece with 23.9%.
Visits to Bulgaria from other European countries reached 369,969, of which Turkey accounted for 44.3%.
Overall in October, Turkey was the origin of the most numerous visits to Bulgaria, or 163,952, followed by Romania, Greece, Ukraine, Serbia, North Macedonia, Germany, Poland, the UK and Italy.
In October, holiday trips and business trips accounted for 34.6% and 15.3% of all international visitors' arrivals, respectively. An increase in the number of trips with all observed purposes was registered, the NSI said.
