October 28 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign tourists who visited Bulgaria in September decreased by 2.9% on the year to 1.286 million, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Monday.
Citizens of EU member states made up 61.2% of all arrivals of international visitors in September, down by 5.5% compared to the number of EU tourists who visited the country during the comparable period of last year, NSI said in a monthly report on tourist numbers.
Vacation trips made up 46.6% of all foreign tourist visits during September, while business trips accounted for 14.3%.
The number of people who visited friends or relatives in Bulgaria or just transited the country represented 39.1% of all arrivals of foreign nationals in September.
Most foreign visitors to Bulgaria came from Turkey, Romania and Germany in the period under review.
