September 24 (SeeNews) - Albania attracted 1.5 million foreign tourists in August, compared with 575,559 in the same month last year, the country's statistical office said.
Foreign tourist arrivals reached 4.4 million in the first eight month of 2021, compared with 1.7 million in the same period a year earlier, the statistical office said in a statement on Thursday.
In August alone, the number of domestic tourists rose to 648,302 from 271,414 in August 2020. Overall, the total number of domestic and foreign tourists came in at 2.2 million in the month under review, compared with 846,973 in the same month in 2020.
In August 2021, Albania attracted 795,880 visitors from Kosovo, 111,870 from North Macedonia and 96,410 from Italy.
Albania confirmed its first two coronavirus cases in early March 2020. Later that month, the country closed its land borders and suspended all commercial flights in an effort to contain the spread of coronavirus.
