September 8 (SeeNews) - Foreign tourist arrivals in Croatia jumped 18.3% on the year to 3.7 million in July, with overnights increasing 12.8% to 21.6 million, data from the country's statistics office showed on Thursday.
Foreign tourists accounted for 94.5% of all overnight stays in July, the data indicated.
Tourism is a key industry for Croatia, generating around a fifth of the country's gross domestic product (GDP).
The number of domestics tourists in July increased 8.4% on the year to 253,096, taking the total number of tourists to 3.9 million, up 17.6% on the year.
The number of domestic overnights edged up 1.8% on the year to 1.3 million in July, taking the total number of tourist overnights to 22.9 million, an increase of 12.2% year-on-year.
Croatia's biggest feeder markets in July were Germany with a share of 17.4%, Slovenia with 13.2%, and the Czech Republic with 8.8%.
In July, the highest number of overnight stays, 12.2 million or 53.4% of the total, were in rooms to let, apartments, studio-type suites and summer houses.
In January-July, tourist arrivals in Croatia increased 9.2% while overnights rose 8.8% to 39.4 million, of which 92% were spent by foreigners.
In 2015, tourist arrivals in Zagreb city and on Croatia's Adriatic coast rose 8.3% to 14.2 million, while overnights increased 6.8% to 78.6 million.
