June 8 (SeeNews) - Foreign tourist arrivals in Croatia dropped 3.8% on the year to 518,931 in April, with overnights down 5% to 1,390,860, the country's statistics office said on Wednesday.
Foreign tourists accounted for 83% of all overnight stays in April, data from the Croatian statistics agency showed.
Tourism is a key industry for Croatia, accounting for around a fifth of the country's gross domestic product.
The number of domestics tourists in April increased 9.8% on the year to 134,705, bringing the total number of tourist to 653,636, down 1.3% on the year.
The number of domestic overnights edged up 0.2% on the year to 285,804 in the review period, taking the total number of tourist overnights to 1,676,664, a decrease of 4.2% year-on-year.
Croatia's biggest feeder markets in April were Slovenia with 20.9%, Germany with 16%, Austria 10.3%, Italy 6.4%, France 5.8% and United Kingdom 4.1%.
In April, the highest number of overnight stays, 1,028,602 or 61.3% of the total, were in hotels.
In January-April, tourist arrivals in Croatia increased 7.5% while overnights rose 6.1% to 3,352,222, of which 73.9% were spent by foreigners.
In 2015, tourist arrivals in Zagreb city and on Croatia's Adriatic coast rose 8.3% to 14.2 million in 2015, while overnights increased 6.8% to 78.6 million.
