July 3 (SeeNews) - Foreign remittances to Kosovo dropped by 0.3% year-on-year in April, totalling 57.9 million euro ($66 million), the central bank said.
In the January-April period, foreign remittances grew 9.4% on the year to 221.3 million euro, according to figures published on the central bank's website.
Expatriate Kosovars usually opt for money transfer operators to send money to relatives or friends back home.
The flow of foreign remittances into Kosovo increased to 691 million euro in 2016, as compared to 665.5 million euro in 2015.
According to the most recent census, Kosovo had a population of 1.77 million in 2015. More than 700,000 Kosovars lived abroad in 2014, with up to 35% of them residing in Germany, according to official data.
