SOFIA (Bulgaria), February 27 (SeeNews) – Foreign arrivals in Bulgaria rose by 6.9% over the year in January, official statistics showed on Friday.
A total of 393,400 foreigners visited Bulgaria in January, the National Statistics Office said in a press release.
As many as 38.5% of all foreigners who visited Bulgaria in January were visiting friends or relatives, or just transiting the country, 41.2% were tourists and 20.3% came on business.
Citizens of EU member states accounted for 43.5% of all foreign arrivals last month, with arrivals from Belgium and France rising by an annual 12.5% and 11.1%, respectively.
Arrivals from European non-EU member states last month increased by 7.6% compared to January 2014, largely due to a 20.8% increase in the number of visitors from Turkey.
