May 23 (SeeNews) - The Romanian unit of online food delivery platform foodpanda said on Thursday it plans to expand to five more cities this year.
Currently, the platform is present in 15 cities, covering 45% of Romania's urban population, foodpanda said in a press release.
Since the beginning of 2019, 400 new restaurants were listed on the platform, half of which are in Bucharest. Among the top cities with the highest percentage of listed restaurants are Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca and Timisoara.
"At present, our services cover almost half of the country's urban population, being present in cities with major metropolitan areas. This year, we aim to strengthen our presence in five other major cities, in order to reach as many Romanians as possible," foodpanda Romania country manager Radu Balaceanu said.
In February, foodpanda said it plans to double the number of its listed restaurants to 2,000 this year. Present in Romania since 2013, foodpanda.ro is currently collaborating with over 1,000 restaurants.
Foodpanda is part of Germany-based Delivery Hero Group - the biggest food delivery platform in the world, operating in more than 40 markets worldwide.
In August, Delivery Hero Group acquired Romanian food delivery company hipMenu for an undisclosed sum.
