July 11 (SeeNews) - Food companies in Croatia's ailing Agrokor concern recorded positive earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of 318.7 million kuna ($50.5 million/43.1 million euro) in the first five months of the year, the concern said on Wednesday.
The companies' total revenue reached 2.961 billion kuna through May, slightly below the budgeted figure, Agrokor said in a statement on its website.
Above average sales revenues and increased operating efficiency resulted in continued extraordinary results in the frozen food and ice cream segment, while continued and intensive pressure on sunflower prices in some markets continues to negatively affect the results in the oils segment, Agrokor explained.
Additionally, the operating result of the drinks segment was above budget, in spite of the slightly lower-than-planed sales revenues. The meat segment generated higher-than budgeted operating profits as a result of lower raw-material prices and the implementation of a cost control programme.
