January 17 (SeeNews) - German mobility services provider FlixMobility, operating in Bulgaria via its FlixBus brand, saw its passenger numbers in the Southeastern European country rise by 63% last year, its Bulgarian office said on Thursday.
The increase is due to the expansion of the company's network, FlixBus Bulgaria said in a statement on Thursday.
In addition to Sofia, FlixMobility also operates services to the cities of Veliko Tarnovo and Razgrad, in Bulgaria's northern part, as well as in the second-largest city of Plovdiv.
In August 2019, FlixMobility launched ten direct night routes from Sofia and Plovdiv - to Zagreb, Ljubljana, Villach, Munich and Salzburg.
The company entered the Bulgarian market in 2018 with six daily FlixBus services - five from Sofia to Vienna, Bucharest, Budapest, Szeged and Kecskemet, and one from Pleven to Bucharest.
Last year, FlixMobility serviced 62 million passengers, up by 37% compared to 2018, the company said.
FlixMobility was founded as the start-up FlixBus in Munich in 2013. It currently operates a bus network serving more than 2,500 routes in 30 countries in Europe.
Along with FlixBus, FlixMobility also operates railway service FlixTrain and carpool service FlixCar.
