December 10 (SeeNews) - Finnish fast food chain Hesburger, operating in Bulgaria through its local subsidiary Bulgarian Burger, plans to open five new restaurants in the country in 2020, Sofia-based media reported on Tuesday.
Hesburger has invested some 15 million euro ($16.6 million) in its Bulgarian operations so far and intends to start investing 3 million euro per year in the forthcoming period, Capital.bg reported, citing the company's CEO Kari Salmela.
The company has been actively expanding its restaurant chain in Bulgaria - in 2019 it opened four new restaurants in Dobrich, Varna, Sliven and Slanchev Briyag. In 2018 it opened seven restaurants, previously operated under the Burger King brand.
The rapid expansion of Hesburger's fast food chain in Bulgaria has resulted in a record-high increase in the revenue of its unit Bulgarian Burger in 2018 - by over 375% to 4.6 million levs, Salmela said.
Hesburger entered the Bulgarian market in 2016 with the ambition to invest up to 35 million euro in opening 50 new restaurants in the country in the next 10 years.
Hesburger operates over 480 restaurants and has over 6,700 employees in nine European countries. In 2018, the company's sales revenue amounted to over 325 million euro.
