June 25 (SeeNews) - Foreign direct investment (FDI) into Albania rose 1.6% year-on-year in the first quarter, reaching 285.6 million euro ($325.2 million), the central bank said on Tuesday.
The net inflow of FDI increased by 8.3% in the January-March period compared to the previous quarter, the central bank said in a report.
The biggest volume of foreign investment in Albania in the first quarter, of 77.3 million euro, originated in the Netherlands, followed by Switzerland with 66.7 million euro.
The sectors, which attracted the biggest volume of investment by non-residents in the January-March period were electricity, gas, and water supply with 135.7 million euro and mining and quarrying with 48.9 million euro.
In 2018, the flow of FDI into Albania rose to 1.02 billion euro, compared to 899.9 million euro in 2017.
Currently, Albania's economy is driven by two big energy projects - the construction of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) and works on a hydro power plant along the Devoll river.
